Bad Reaction
Remember when hardcore and punk were the same thing? Hopefully Bad Reaction will help jog your memory.
The band came together after Brooklyn native Kash Reaction (vocals) moved to Los Angeles in 2001 after having studied toy design. His intention was to rekindle the spirit of early 80s hardcore punk bands like the Zero Boys, Circle Jerks, Adolescents, Minor Threat, and Bad Brains – groups who on one level wrote great, memorable tunes, and on another level had serious messages to convey, without losing their sense of humor.
After many false starts, Kash assembled the line up that came to be Bad Reaction. Bassist Jesse A comes from the live fast die school of punk, taking his cue from bands like Poison Idea and Christ On Parade, while on the other end of the spectrum, guitarist Ben Edge raised himself on Southern California straight edge hardcore.
After releasing a demo in 2004 and the Symptoms of Youth LP two years later, drummer Nik Rips climbed aboard, completing the current line up. Nik is the quintisential snotty, suburbanite punk rock skateboarder. If it’s loud, fast, and from the early 80s, he’s all over it. Discovered by the other guys during his brief stint as the drummer for Nardcore legends Dr. Know, Nik provided the necessary ingredient in Bad Reaction’s sound: unrestrained teenage speed and aggression.
Kash is one of the most intense frontmen around. His confrontational delivery has cost him many broken teeth and facial lacerations. Kash is a hulking mass of energy who always lets his presence be felt, but will crack a smile even after addressing issues such as religious and racial persecution or police harassment that are a part of daily life.
Sometime around 2005, the classic hardcore punk sound experienced a resurgence, with new bands all over North America and Europe popping up everyday. Bad Reaction finally had other bands to play with! With all the pieces now in place, the band went back into the studio in 2007, and recorded their leanest and toughest jams to date.
Having toured the western U.S. many times, Bad Reaction is going to take the east coast by storm in 2008 and they have their sights set on Europe and Japan soon after that.
